A song-poem of thanks for the legacy you left me.

Daddy (A song poem)/Tag line from “Blessed Assurance”) by Denise Goosby

You loved me before I even knew what love was

Even before I knew God

You were all to me

You loved me before I knew what love was

Even before I knew myself

You were all to me

Nearly three years now since you left, daddy

Images fill my mind

Of you smiling, of you crying, of the pain in your eyes

Sometimes the ache comes softly…floating on the wind

Sometimes it’s a flood trying to draw me under again

But it’s only because I love you still

You know, love never dies

And even though I miss you still

I know it’s not goodbye

Cause you left a legacy that money cannot buy

Your hugs and kisses let me know I mattered to you

Times we spent fishing or lifting praises to the sky

Oh, daddy, did you know Jesus shone from your eyes?

You were always there when I needed you

In good times and in bad

Watching me receive my diploma

Standing by momma’s graveside

In the latter years as the losses mounted

You never lost your faith

Loving God and loving others

Your example I can never replace

But what I can do is follow you

As you faithfully followed Christ

Knowing my God is my father’s God

And I’ll see you once again

Cause you left a legacy that money cannot buy

Your hugs and kisses let me know I mattered to you

Times we spent fishing or lifting praises to the sky

Oh, daddy, did you know Jesus shone from your eyes?

It’s hard carrying on without you

Even now the tears are going to fall

But the Father of us both holds me closely

And He’s my all and all…

Thank you for your legacy that money cannot buy

Thank you for your hugs and kisses that mattered so much to me

The times we spent fishing or lifting praises to the sky

Oh, daddy, thank you for Jesus, He shone from your eyes

Praising my Savior all the day long

Praising my Savior all the day long
